There is a growing concern with both educators and parents that over the long summer months students suffer a significant learning loss. Summer Learning Loss, or SSL, is a regression of academic knowledge and skills that students experience having let said skills lie dormant over the extended summer vacation days.
Studies have shown that students lose, on average, half of what they learned in the previous school year over the course of a long summer vacation. As a result, during the first few weeks of school students spend considerable time reviewing and relearning content already covered in the previous academic year.
There is a growing need for summer programs that are fun but also have an academic option to ensure that teens are still keeping their academic knowledge and skills stimulated. It is with this in mind that ASA has included an academic option including ESL, SAT and ACT prep, along with various cultural immersion programs with community service options to keep students stimulated and constantly learning whilst being in a fun summer sports camp environment.
Incorporating day trips to Panama that focus on touring and learning the history of The Panama Canal, interacting with indigenous rainforest tribes, along with providing community service options in sloth sanctuaries and local rural schools can provide an enriching experience that is both rewarding and educational.
ASA is committed to providing a well rounded experience which combines a variety of options that can cater to all individual needs. Our elective programming provides the building blocks to create the ultimate enriching camp experience!
